  1. How do I update from version 1.0/1.1 to 1.2?
  2.  
  3. TimeGuardian 1.2 has been completely revised and improved by many 
  4. new features. There are at least twice as much features as in the 
  5. old versions! Unfortunately this requires that you have to change 
  6. something at your already existing datas. I am very sorry for that, 
  7. but I could not fix these problems another way.
  8.  
  9. I would suggest you to print this file and then do the update step
  10. by step as described below. It it is very important to do the whole
  11. update to get a corectly working new program package!
  12.  
  13. 1. Replace the old binary files:
  14.    I recommend you to use the Installer. This ensures that you won't
  15.    miss any files later on.
  16.  
  17.    For an update *without* the Installer, please read the appropriate
  18.    chapter of the documantation. There you get a list what to do.
  19.  
  20. 2. The main program TimeGuardian will be started from the Installer-
  21.    script. Select the desired values for the new features of Time-
  22.    Guardian 1.2 . You may enter the desired filename or value or
  23.    leave the string gadget empty. After startup the default values
  24.    will be inserted for the new features.
  25.  
  26.    You have to enter the following new items:
  27.  
  28.    - menu 'Prefernces->Cron Setup':
  29.       -> Log History
  30.       -> Cron Task Priority
  31.  
  32.    - page 'Timer'
  33.       -> Cron Table -> Current
  34.          ( the path of your ols CronTable will appear at 'Default'  )
  35.  
  36.    - page 'Special'
  37.       -> Once a week
  38.       -> Once a month
  39.  
  40.    Please refer to the new documentation for the meaning of these new
  41.    items.

  43. 3. If you are using multiple configurations you have to load them with
  44.    'Open...', change them as described at 3 and then save them with
  45.    'Save as...' over the old config files.
  46.  
  47. 4. Now you have to load all files which contain the onoff cycles into
  48.    an editor. These are the files which names you selected at 'OnOff'
  49.    in the preferences program.
  50.  
  51.    You will notice that the first entry differs from all others. It
  52.    misses the point of time the computer has been turned on for the
  53.    first time. Just make an entry in the first line, so that it looks
  54.    like all the other lines. Use for date the same as the entry for
  55.    the point of time your computer has been turned off contains.
  56.    And for time something shortly before that point of time.

  78.    After changing that save the text file and edit the next one, if
  79.    you have more than one 'onoff' files.

  81. 5. If you have datafiles from different years ('94,'95) you should
  82.    concatenate them to one file together. You may use a texteditor
  83.    for that, too, or you can use the 'join' command:

  97.    The new Timeguardian doesn't use the suffix anymore. If you
  98.    have datafiles from only one year, you simply rename them:

  100.                rename sys:Test/LogFile.94 sys:Test/LogFile

  102.                rename Work:TG/OnOff.95 Work:TG/OnOff

  104.    Change all names of existing data files in this way!

  107. 6. If you have written your own CronTable files, you may change the
  108.    character for the comments. Due to a little mistake it was the ';'
  109.    selected for comments and not '#' as the real Un*x syntax uses.
  110.    This was changed for version 1.2, both, the '#' and ';' signifies a
  111.    comment now. Several enhancements to the CronTable syntax were made.
  112.    Please refer to the new documentation for these features. But don't
  113.    worry, a very powerful graphical user interface for the CronTables
  114.    has been developed to make it easier for you to generate your own
  115.    CronTables.
